Millipede Project

Millipede.jpg

Millipede is based on the belief that climate change is the responsibility of every individual and that millions of tiny simultaneous steps can become one giant leap. Climate change is having a lived effect on all people.  For people living in India and Scotland we are already experiencing disruptive changes to climate and weather. Human homes and natural habitats are disappearing. Millipede will stimulate a global conversation between people from different cultures and lived experiences in Scotland and India. Working with leading science communicators, we will empower project participants with the knowledge they need to feel confident about expressing their perspectives on climate change. With the support of our project artists, we will spark the imaginations of participants to create an artwork in the context of scientific fact, but which has the power to take others on an emotional journey, to tell a story.

Millipede is a playful interactive website, where visitors navigate their way through many shoe boxes on virtual shelves. Selecting a shoe will reveal an exhibit. Each digital artwork exhibit for Millipede is created by professional artists working with intergenerational participants from community groups based in Scotland and India. Each piece will be created as a personal response to lived experience of climate change. Milipede’s exhibits will engage visitors to reflect on their own carbon footprint and those of other people around the world, Accompanying each artwork will be a label connecting the collection back to the science and offering tangible solutions for how we can each reduce our contribution to climate change.

This project is supported by The Creative Commissions grant from British Council. The aspiration for these commissions is to stimulate global conversations about climate change and to inspire transformational change.
